Video Modeling

VIDEO MODELING: A Visual Teaching Method for Children with Autism (2nd Edition)By Liisa Neumann

A Guide for Parents and Educators

VIDEO MODELING: A Visual Teaching Method for Children with Autism (2nd Edition) "a book about the process of videotaping is an instructional process of videotaping behaviors related to autism in a specific way in order to develop the ability to memorize, imitate and generalize (appropriately adapt) those behaviors. This type of instruction is appropriate for use at home and school. It is also a convenient method for developing or strengthening the home-school connection, simply by sending the videos back and forth. It may increase the effectiveness of existing behavioral intervention programs. And furthermore, it may offer a way of getting through to your child with autism when getting through seems impossible.

Video Modeling has been a fun easy and effective way to get through to our son. By modeling on video, or in essence acting out, specific behaviors (such as how to jump, sneeze, talk, pretend to be all sorts of things, write, take turns, etc...), we have been able to help shorten the developmental gap that differentiates William, our son, from his peers. This acting in itself has been very entertaining for the rest of the family. We still have a way to go, but we now have more hope because we have an affordable, non-tiring, enjoyable, effective way to get through to William. As dealing with autism can be incredibly time consuming, video instruction offers families and educators a way to enjoy the process of teaching.

VIDEO MODELING FOR CHILDREN WITH AUTISM IS...
an easy-to-use method to develop and strengthen communication skills, academic performance, social and self-help skills. Parents, educators, friends and relatives, with access to a camcorder may be able to make a difference in the life of a child with autism simply by creating videos. In this guide, you will find over one hundred tips on how to make instructional videos for the child with autism in your life.
